Although most people are familiar with crimson red garnets, garnets occur in every colour of the spectrum - except blue - and any coloured ganrnet applies as January's birthstone. The name Garnet originates from Latin and means pomegranate. This gem is said to act as a guide for paths, both physical and metaphysical - for travelers and those who need direction. It is also believed that red garnets prevent blood disorders and infections.
